MMORPG.co.uk’s Weekly MMORPG Editor’s Choice Award Runes of Magic

There are many Free-to-Play MMORPGs out there in the world; sometimes if feels like there might even be too many. How are you to choose which to play? How do you know which are good, or which would best suit your personal style? With our help, of course!

If there’s a new MMORPG on the market, you can be sure that we’ve played it, reviewed it, and are ready to help you start playing it! As such, we’ve decided to let you know which games we think you’ll like the most. Each week, we’re going to put up a new review of a game we feel is just too good to miss: this week, Runes of Magic!

Runes of Magic is a 3D Fantasy MMORPG with beautiful 3D graphics, fully-realized dungeon encounters, unmatched character customization, and a unique multi-class system. It comes packed with both simple improvements and changes to some traditional MMORPG systems – and some entirely new features and additions too.

The first of the more noticeable additions you will find throughout the lands of Taborea is in the character creation. Here, you are given the choice of over twenty different face and hairstyles, and can choose from almost any color imaginable. Then, you are able to choose the size of each and every individual body part on you character, and their height too. Coupled with the later ability to choose a Primary and Secondary color for each piece of armor you equip, you should have a hard time finding another player that looks even remotely like you do.

If you should however find another character that resembles yours, Runes of Magic has a solution for that too, and it lies in the totally awesome multi-class system. While to begin with you are only able to select one class, upon reaching level 10 you are given the choice of a second, and will have access to certain skills from their arsenal; however, this comes at a price – time – as in order to gain access to these skills you must first designate your secondary class as your primary, and begin again from level 1.

At present, 6 classes are available (Rogue, Warrior, Knight, Priest, Scout and Mage) – however when you factor in Secondary Classes, you’ll find that number to be closer to 30. Levelling is amazingly fluent, too. Questing, as it’s called, is once again very much like that found in World of Warcraft, both in style and in quantity. There are currently over 600 quests in Runes of Magic, with many more on the horizon, and although they will feel quite familiar to those of you that have player WoW, there are several key differences that you will notice upon completing them.

Firstly, the Mini-Map has been used to its fullest advantage, as both enemies and items that can be used in quests are displayed. Secondly, all available quests are shown on the Full Map, saving much time otherwise spent searching for something to do all over the world. Thirdly, an Auto-Run feature has been implemented and can be accessed via either the Full Map or the Quest Log to make travelling less of a Burden. And finally, enemies that are required for active quests will show information in the tool-tip displayed when you hover your mouse over them.

On top of the features already mentioned, Runes of Magic features player housing, limitless crafting options, group-themed dungeons and quests, and a plethora of traditional MMORPG elements that are best experienced firsthand. In summary, Runes of Magic is one of the most accomplished MMORPG titles on the market, and best of all; it’s completely free to play. This isn’t a game you’re going to want to miss.

Top 5 Free MMORTS Strategy Games in March
by Cody Hargreaves

So, you’re tired of shooting people in that awesome MMOFPS game you started playing last month, and you’ve finished every quest in that MMORPG you’ve been playing all year. Now what? Is it over? Have you finally reached the end of the gaming cycle? Will the world as you know it now come to an inevitable end as you finally realise you’re got nothing left to do? Not even close.
What you need is some Strategy. Why control a single character when you can command an entire army? Why play in worlds created by others when you can create your own? The MMORTS, or Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy Game, is the answer to all of your prayers. In MMORTS games, you don’t merely shoot the bad guys, and you don’t run for hours on end in search of a single new item; no, in MMORTS games you seize control of entire planets, nations and populaces, you build new cities from the ground up making small villages thriving empires in a matter of days, you put your tactics and wits to the test against other real players as you defend your territory from enemy assaults, and make alliances with likeminded players to protect your borders or expand your territory, crushing all who oppose you under your giant boot of epic and awe.

New Fantasy MMORPG Trickster Reviewed At MMORPG.co.uk

MMORPG.co.uk Presents Trickster Online, Reviewed!
by Cody Hargreaves

Trickster is a 2D Fantasy MMORPG that blends many traditional ‘grind-style’ elements with innovative class progression and a massive 400 levels.
Trickster’s forefront innovation lies in its character progression system; you’ll begin by choosing between one of 8 unique animal themed classes — the Buffalo, Bunny, Dragon, Sheep, Lion, Fox, Raccoon and Cat — and 12 available statistic distributions.
Each class in Trickster follows the standard MMORPG formula; the Buffalo and Bunny are Warrior archetypes, best suited for absorbing damage from enemies; the Dragon and Sheep are Magic Casters, designed to deal large amounts of damage quickly, but have low health and are easily killed; the Lion and Fox are ranged DPS (Damage Per Second) classes that use guns and gadgets to deal significant damage to single targets; and finally, the Racoon and Cat are Card Master classes that use ‘cards’ to inflict a variety of status effects to confuse opponents and heal allies.

The innovation here comes in a cool style, as it’s your gender that decides the finer elements of your style. For example, the Buffalo and Bunny are very similar classes, however the Buffalo is male and the Bunny female, and while in the beginning stages of the game these classes are almost identical, they are given completely different evolution options later: the Buffalo can become a Gladiator or Mercenary, and the Bunny a Champion or Duelist.
Next on the innovation front is the 12 point statistic distribution system. In most MMORPG titles, players are asked to distribute ‘stats’ whenever they reach a new level. Generally these come in the form of Strength, Agility, Wisdom, etc, and there are usually between 5 and 8 available. Essentially, this means that in the later stages of the game players who choose the same class as another player will actually be very different, as they will likely have chosen different stats. With TWELVE stats available in Trickster, this system is taken to an entirely new level. You can be sure that you’ll never meet another player that is exactly same as you, and as such, PvP (Player vs. Player) combat will always rely on player skill.

The final innovation in Trickster comes in the form of a 400 level advancement system. As a ‘grind-style’ MMORPG with limited questing options, a high amount of levels is fairly common. But 400? Insane. This will guarantee a limitless amount of gameplay for all players, and with so many available class and progression options, a limitless amount of fun, too.

New Sci-Fi MMORPG Battlestar Galactica Online Review

New Sci-Fi MMORPG Battlestar Galactica Online Review
by Cody Hargreaves

Battlestar Galactica Online (BGO) is a Browser-Based, 3D Sci-Fi MMORPG that offers you the opportunity to experience the epic universe of Battlestar Galactica. This week at MMORPG.co.uk, we take a hands-on look at this action MMORPG to see what all the fuss is about.

Following closely in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Sci-Fi television series by the same name, Battlestar Galactica Online offers you a choice between 2 races, the Colonial Humans or Cylons, more than 15 unique, fully-customizable ships, and an entire universe to explore.

Battlestar Galactica Online offers a plethora of unique and innovative features, though by far the most outstanding are the visuals. They’re fantastic, boasting some of the most impressive uses of the Unity 3D-Space engine ever seen in an MMORPG; however, what makes BGO truly special is the use of these high-quality visuals in a Browser-Based format.
Yes, Battlestar Galactica Online is played entirely from your web browser, without the need for a large download or install. As a result, you can experience first-class strategic space battles, planet-side exploration missions, epic Player-vs-Player (PvP) space wars and unique, cooperative multiplayer adventures to the bitter reaches of the galaxies without ever leaving your Internet browser.
